I am an amateur astronomer living in beautiful (and wet) North Vancouver, British Columbia. My interest in astronomy started when I was 11 after my parents bought me a book on astronomy for Christmas. Soon thereafter, I got my first telescope, an 8” Antares Dobsonian that was as tall as I was and half my weight. At the time, I was living in Maple Ridge, under reasonable skies, and I logged more hours out with my 8” than I can count.
I attended the University of British Columbia (UBC), completing a Bachelor of Science, with a double major in Computer Science and Philosophy. During my degree, I was heavily involved with the UBC Astronomy Club, and was co-president of the club in 2014.
I took a long hiatus from astronomy after I graduated from UBC in 2016 to pursue other interests (hiking/trail running/climbing/cycling). During the pandemic, I decided, for reasons still unclear to me, to rejoin the UBC Astronomy Club, and rekindled my interest in the night sky.
I started this site to journal my experiences as an amateur astronomer, living in a rainforest, in light-polluted Vancouver, BC. Despite this, I want to write about rediscovering astronomy and my journey to share the night sky with as many people as possible.
